Overview

Founded in 1997, Microsulis Limited is a medical device development company that exploits specialist intellectual property in microwave design to create new medical products.

The company was formed following research collaboration between Chemring and the University of Bath (UoB) in 1993.

The company focussed initially on a product in the gynaecology market and has commercialised this product. The company is now focussing on the development of new products in the oncology market.

The central and unique technical innovation involves the use of dielectric [1] materials in the microwave applicator design to deliver accurate, controlled, high power microwave energy to the target site. Based on this, the company has product designs for the gynaecology (endometrial ablation), oncology (tumour ablation) and vascular surgery (varicose veins occlusion) markets.

Key dates in the company's development are:

  • Microsulis first incorporated in 1997
  • Gynaecology focus - first CE marked product in 1997
  • Initial research on oncology applications in 2000
  • First design for open surgery tumour ablations CE marked in 2005/6
  • Research into percutaneous designs started in 2004
  • Management led, investor backed buy-out in June 2007
  • From 1 Jan 2008 Microsulis was structured into a group comprising Microsulis Holdings Limited (MHL), Microsulis Medical Limited (MML) and Acculis Limited (AL).

Microsulis Medical Limited contains the main trading business of the group focussed on the commercial exploitation of our gynaecology and oncology products.

Acculis Limited will focus on the delivery of the Percutaneous MTA development project.
